Design for Wiser Action
Feedback from callers and hosts
Callers:
pertinent questions
really ‘heard’ me and my concerns
team being ‘called’ next
a safe space
gracious
encouragement of ‘the other’ to go deeper
unblocking of head & heart
time to form ideas more clearly
the need I’d identified was an assumption
so need to go back and research so can see if others see this as a need
affirmation of the project
active listeners, with no preconceived ideas
kept going back to the need
positive criticisms - so don;t need to be defensive
stretched
need to support community and young people
re-examine who I am calling and what are we holding
how does it feel to have back turned
able to listen better
frees from having to engage
separates the owner from the project
sharpness, time
when explaining it might feel weird
not to be an outsider but to get the sharpness
hosts:
realised needed to explain the chart first!
on the floor, lots of conversation, sticking things down
at table, more formal, taking own notes, less stickies, but unaware of it
surprise! programme reveal, succinct instructions
Alice's reflections:
Hosting is like the ritual of the Christmas cracker
What is a cracker for? making a big bang, getting a joke, receiving a gift, co-ordinating the pull
What happens? bang, chaotic spill of contents, mess, colourful rubbish...
then rubbish bag, adorned people, disappointed people, co-ordination, communication listening to bad jokes
result: solid thing, chaos, redistribution of things, ‘different’ people and broken crackers at the end
it’s lunch vs Christmas dinner
Why do we have crackers? process of Christmas lunch, equalisation, levelling, laughter, part of a feast, richer at the end of it
